Hoggetowne Faire

I've lost track of the number. This faire started some time back. Every year except last year, Herself has been involved. Last year there came a major conflict with her involvement in the SCA, so she skipped the Faire because their contract requires attendance at both weekends. This year, she's baaa-aaack. *G*

So I've got Ranch Watch this morning, which includes not only the Herd of 6 (who are being weaned, it's time, but that contributes to the next part) also two brand new kids from yesterday who we are watching to make sure their dame is nursing them. Both kids are doelings, and Herself wants those doelings!

So. Off to Feed the Multitudes, then clean up, then dress in funny clothes (for the 21st Century, at least) and off to Faire.

Change In Plans

Another pair of kids this morning, these two from one of our older does who is getting to a point where... well, we'll probably be feeding her kids too. Particularly since we rather like JuneBug. She got the tips of one leg, just the hooves, caught under a platform when she was a wee kid. Our yearling bull calf at the time nudged the platform onto her. We don't know how deliberate that was, doesn't matter. By the time we found her, those hoof toetips were dead. She lost them within a week, but healed fine otherwise.

Nobody told her she couldn't do things with only 3.95 feet, so she does. She's actually one of the more dominant does in the herd.

And she presented us doelings. Herself is wanting those doelings. The fall kidding was near 95% bucklings which is good for sales later (much later) this year and into next year. However, a higher portion than we'd like of the does are these older does. We need their replacements.

So. I'm keeping an eye on the Ranch all day. Herself has been notified. She approves.

I'm going to go feed the Bros in a short bit, then clean up and start getting ready for dinner. The Faire closes at 18:00, Herself expects to be back to the Ranch sometime between 19:00 and 20:00. Maybe to the earlier part of that because I think she wants to see the kids.

Speaking of the kids, apparently when the Bros were 'disappearing' from sight while we kept an eye on the new additions, they were quite busy here at teh House. I never cease to be amazed at the things Border Collies can learn to do. Nick the cards right out of my cameras, upload to the PC and then upload to the Web. Ya. I'm impressed. But if you want to see pictures of some of the new kids, follow that link.
