I missed one day posting a Pic'O'Day this week, and it did feel odd. Way back when I started up a spot here on LJ, I'd contemplated making it a photoblog. Took a while to figure out how to post images. Not the technical HTML part; I knew that already. The easy way to store images on-line which is partially what is needed. Plus, at that time I still rather felt like I had a photo website, though in truth by then it already showed signs of stagnation. I rarely point anyone towards it any longer, as you may notice by a lack of a link in this diatribe.
Still and all, it took discovering the work of dianavilliers, who is quite consistently popping up a daily photograph, to remind me that doing something is 10% Deciding To Do So and 90% doing the work. At that point, I opted to not procrastinate any longer, even if I didn't feel in a position to make a photograph a day for posting (which is primarily what dianavilliers is doing) quite yet. I've got an archive out there on the web, one to which I've continued adding the odd piece or three even since starting a week-day Pic'O'Day posting. So I started snagging photos from the archive, to build up steam and the habit of posting.
Mostly that's worked.
Nor am I about to run out of archive over there on Flickr any time soon. What I am noticing is that it's becoming difficult to remember, easily, which photos I've posted, which ones I've not posted. After all, part of the exercise is a different picture each posting. And while I can think of a couple ways to easily keep track of which ones I've posted, my laziness so far interferes with keeping such records. Oh well. It's a challenge.
Plus, since I've merged a number of Herself's photographs into that Flickr-stream (Herself is rather a good photographer as well, one of the things we both found attractive in each other early on in our relationship), then one or two of hers have popped up in that Pic'O'Workday though I've probably not identified them as hers. Considering we compare notes on our work, I'm not sure this is a problem. Up to you; you could start guessing Is it His, or Herself?
Yesterday Herself received something of an early Hippie Birdbaths present when I brought home a couple dozen of her photos, printed to 8x10 and 11x14. Now, one of the sparks for doing so is that next week is the NCFPC meeting, it's the Print Competition meeting (alternating months) and she wants to put pictures in. So do I. Now we can. There are quite a few very good ones in the batch, a few which are mildly disappointing to see printed. Slightly blurred, colours off just a tad. However, we also haven't calibrated her monitor, and actually probably aren't likely too. It's an old CRT. Getting to be time to replace it.
I expect that soon, a relative term rather than a quantitative one, I'll be rigging up to post, if not a brand new picture made that very day, at least new pictures made within the previous 7 day.
And in other news, even if not a picture posting, per se, here's one of the pieces I'm going to put into the NCFPC August Print Competition. If you're following the Pic'O'Day postings, you'll recall an earlier version of this picture on July 20. I'm not reposting it as a picture here, but as a link to it over on Deviant Art. Now it even sports a more pertinant title, eh? No Wake Zone.
And in other, other news, Houdini enjoyed a night inside Big House last night. We experienced some severe thunderstorms and so I brought him in when I got home. He's been well behaved even though, possibly despite, waking me up around 06:00 this morning. That was to go empty his bladder, so it's good.
